Pokemon Tales - Muscle Buddies

Description

Just a little idea for a drawing I had - I wanted to draw the four most muscular members of my Pokémon team together - the four who are the most heavily built for their size, and are around 1.6-2.1 m. Acrid is taller than normal Incineroars, for the record - one of her parents was a Pangoro/Bewear (just thinking about which one. :) ).

Conker the Chesnaught - While he doesn't put as much effort into training as the other three - he doesn't go out of his way to constantly work out - Conker has built up his strength with his woodcarving and lumberjack hobbies. He actually doesn't really like attracting attention when it comes to his muscular frame, as he often gets called an 'idiotic brute', despite being a very cheerful and kind guy. (This is a personal address to the fact that as much as people bring up how women who are stereotypically attractive get undue attention and judgement due to their appearance, the times when MEN suffer similar abuse isn't brought up as much, and I have heard cases where muscular men do get called things like this.) He more sees his strength as a way to fully enjoy the great outdoors and teaching his friends survival skills and taking them on hikes and mountain climbing.

Asumo the Pangoro - The team coach, Asumo dedicates himself to putting all of his energy into whatever task he's focusing on and helping others be the best at what they do, always seeing room for improvement. Despite his great amount of energy and booming voice, he actually gets enraged by those who rush into things without thinking and those who could have taken a much less dangerous route to achieving their goal.

Acrid the Incineroar - Her whole life, Acrid made a vow to her family to train herself to keep them all safe from any danger and to never let herself be killed by anyone other than her closest family. During her time with her team, she sees more uses for her great strength and thinks more about protecting her teammates, but one thing hasn't changed - as long as she proves herself, she doesn't care about any cuts or bruises. In fact, it seems that she takes great pride in showing off her numerous battle scars on her body, and doesn't care in the slightest about anyone who calls her 'homely' or 'monstrous' because of her toned body. (And yes, she actually does laugh like that. And she has pockets on her cape that allow her to carry milk bottles with her - you may be able to see one in the picture. )

Cuddles the Bewear - Possessing more of a 'chubby muscular' physique, Cuddles knows that her kind has a bad reputation for having hugs that can be fatal if delivered incorrectly, so she's thought of a better way to use her hugs as a kind of tense muscle relaxation via applying pressure to a body's pressure points. She wants to use her strength to relieve tension, either through hugging... or by beating up any opponents who insult her friends.

If you were to choose one of these four as a personal trainer, which one would you choose? :D (Also, I've asked for critiques on this piece, as I'd like to know how I'm doing with practice drawing anthro Pokémon and muscular designs. I personally really liked how this came out. :aww: )

This may not be as full of as a critique as one could write because I would not consider this a full picture. I suppose that, if you wanted a full critique on your anatomy, you would have drawn all of your characters from different angles. But, since I know this is your first time, I assume that you only want comments on the direction you want to take with your style.

I think you drew the muscles on these Pokemon very well. I find that the anthro style can quickly become strange/creepy-looking if proportions are exaggerated so I appreciate the subtle differences in their builds to make them more humanoid. I do not see many people draw the different variants on the muscular build, especially not in a nuanced way like you have.

Acrid has to be my favourite one here. As someone who lifts weights, I can tell you that putting on that kind of muscle (especially as a female; due to biological differences) is not easy so her pride with her build is actually quite understandable! That pose of her flipping Asumo off is very fitting.

Now, to answer your question, it would have to depend on what my fitness goals were.
If I wanted to use 'exercise' as a way to have fun, I would choose Conker.
If I wanted to succeed in completing a certain move (for instance, I would like to work towards completing one pull-up by myself), I would choose Asumo.
If I wanted to be completely pushed to my limits in order to toughen up, I would choose Acrid.
If I wanted to unwind and de-stress with exercise (which is one of the top reasons why I do it now), I would choose Cuddles.

I honestly cannot comment on anything else. Nicely done with this.
