Hello my friends! :wave:

I have broken up for Christmas! :boogie: Yep, it won't be until the 7th of January that I go back to University! :D So, let's celebrate with a Duckyworth's Thoughts review of the latest James Bond film, and of one I enjoy.... Skyfall! :D

DT 37 - Skyfall by Duckyworth

Yep, I haven't seen many James Bond films in the past, the only ones I've seen are Live and Let Die, For Your Eyes Only, Diamonds are Forever and Goldfinger... but even with those, I haven't seen them all the way through... ^^; The only one I'v seen all the way is Casino Royale.... and I have to admit... it was nothing special.... :hmm: But, I heard that Skyfall is supposed to be good, so I went with my parents to watch it.... And I was pleasently surprised. :D

Of course, as with all Bond films, the viewer is guaranteed tons of action... And this film is no exception... From the beginning, you're THROWN into the action... and an awesome action scene at that.... James Bond, played once again by Daniel Craig, is chasing a terrorist, and the chase scene results in him and his accomplice, yet ANOTHER Moneypenny :XD:, cornering the terrorist on top of a MOVING TRAIN... :wow: And of course, after this action scene (I won't ruin the outcome for you :aww:) we get another tripped out opening sequence that looks like Fiver from Watership Down, Snitter from Plague Dogs and Francis from Felidae broke into the booze cabinet again... :rofl: But of course.... the THEME for this film that plays in the opening sequence is SUCH a cool ear-worm for me, and in my opinion, it's the BEST 007 theme that I've heard as of yet. :D Here is the theme for you to listen to.... prepare to hear awesomeness..... :headbang:

Now of course, Bond films really change their settings, don't they? :D This film takes place in Shanghai, Istanbul, London and even a remote island in...... well, I must admit, I'm not entirely sure..... ^^; Many people may not like a film jumping around constantly, but like the Tintin series, it shows just how huge a story can be. :aww: And besides, I like seeng London and the Scottish highlands, as, like for the Lake District in Plague Dogs, it makes the film seem very familiar, as I can roughly recognise some of the settings. :aww:

Then again, one thing I've always questioned about Bond is how quickly he manages to hit it on with women... and yet again... In this film, the first time we see him after the opening sequence is him getting... acquainted with a woman on a random island somewhere... and then, he leaves her... And no-one ever mentions her again....
BIG LIPPED ALLIGATOR MOMENT!!
But as we all, Bond has a.... way with ladies... :hmm:

Now, of course, as with the last few Bond films, Judie Dench plays M, Bond's employer, who is being targeted by threatening e-mail messages from an ex-M16 agent called Raoul Silva, who brings forth some rather... uncomfortable scenes when he confronts Bond, when Bond is tied down to a chair in Silva's headquarters.... Yeah, is it me, or is Daniel Craig's bond ALWAYS getting tied down to chairs? :XD: Now, of course, I have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING against homosexuality, I completely appreciate it.. But Silva's diplays of romantic interest in James Bond did make me feel pretty uncomfortable... :hmm:

Silva is played by an actor called Javier Bardem, who is also known for playing Anton in No Country For Old Men, and while I haven't seen that film, from clips I've seen, he shows his acting skills really well in that film... Silva used to work under M, but after he failed a mission and M wanted nothing to do with him, he tried to commit suicide by ingesting a hydrogen cyanide tablet... Leading to his insides being dissolved, and part of his face and mouth being corroded.. :x This leads to some pretty cool and clever makeup on him, especially when we see him take out his dentures to reveal some missing teeth and a damaged eye. :fear:

We also have Ralph Fiennes and some other great actors in this film, all turning out great performances... Even though I question the actress who plays the woman that Bond meets in that Casino... ^^; I don't know.. her acting seemed a bit... off. Maybe a common fault some Bond girls have... ^^; It's like the girls in Casino Royale... I thought their acting was a bit second-rate.... Probably because their main role is often to simply be a damsel in distress (or dumbass in distress at times :XD:) in the Bond films I've seen, although some Bond films have some exceptions. :aww:

Of course, all of the action scenes offer a lot of promising scenarios, but this film is particularly cool for me because most of them take place in London or the Scottish highlands. :D Speaking of cool action scenes, one of the coolest involves an old car that we've seen James Bond use quite a few times in his previous adventures. I'm not sure which film it originally came from, but it is a very famous Bond car. :D And there's one scene where the camera is used in a way to make it look like the car is alive. :aww:

Also, this film has quite a few surprises in store too. :excited: Not only do quite a few interesting events occur... but one character in this film meets a fate that is BEYOND SHOCKING. :wow: I have to admit... I did NOT see the scene where this fate occurs coming.... Your jaw will hit the FLOOR! I guarantee it... :aww:

Of course, every good film has to have a few flaws to even it out - not every part of a film can be perfect. ^^; Some of the CGI is a bit questionable.... especially the effects on the shattering glass and the Komodo Dragons in one scene. :( I've heard that these are common things that a film, even one with a HUGE budget, struggles to get right. ^^; Oh well, you can't always get it perfect... ^^;

Not a very long critique this time, but I don't want to spoil too much for you. :aww: It is worth checking out, even if you aren't a Bond fan. :aww:

Next time, we shall look a Christmas special... that looks like it came from the studio that brought us A FOX'S TALE... :fear:

Prepare to brace yourself.... For THE FLIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS. :cries:

What was your opinion on Casino Royale? I liked Mads Mikkelsen's performance as Le Chiffre.
